Senior Extra-Curricular Activities

These activities continue to develop key skills and personal qualities that will prove valuable throughout their time at school and into the wider world. Indeed, we consistently find that happy, busy teenagers who are committed to an aspect of extra-curricular life at school perform better academically.

Individual Instrumental or Singing Tuition Information

The strong tradition of music at Farringtons School is supported by many pupils receiving instrumental or vocal tuition. Lessons cater for Piano and Violin from Year 2 upwards (Year 1 may be considered subject to a trial period), singing from Year 2 upwards and all other instruments from Year 3 upwards.

We cater for all levels of ability from beginner to advanced. We have very talented Visiting Music Teachers (VMTs), sourced from Bromley Youth Music Trust (BYMT), who deliver high quality tuition during the school day. Lessons take place in curriculum time on a carousel at a different time each week, which avoids the same class lesson being missed too often.  Unfortunately, we cannot accept requests for lessons only at specific times.  Lessons are usually one-to-one, and all are 30 minutes long. Paired lessons can be accommodated, but only if there is another pupil of similar ability to pair with. All instrumentalists and singers are expected to participate weekly in the school ensembles and to take part in school shows and performances.

We offer lessons on the following instruments:

  • Piano
  • Strings – Violin, Viola and Cello
  • Woodwind – Flute, Clarinet, Oboe, Bassoon and Saxophone
  • Brass – Trumpet, Trombone, French Horn, Baritone and Tuba
  • Guitar – Acoustic and Electric
  • Drum Kit
  • Voice.

Other instruments can be offered if there is sufficient interest and we are able to engage a teacher.

If your child would like to take up musical tuition, please fill in the application form and return it to the Senior School Office, whether for Prep or Senior lessons.

If you have any questions about individual instrumental or singing tuition, please contact Mr Rayner

Some frequently asked questions are on the website and the application form for your information and further information about BYMT can be found at www.bymt.co.uk.  When applying, you will be asked to agree to the terms and conditions of learning an instrument or voice on your behalf and that of your son/daughter. This applies particularly to payment of fees on time, the notice period to cease lessons and the requirement to participate in the weekly school ensembles and to take part in school shows and performances.
