Yesterday and this morning during Chapel, we marked Peace Day and a presentation was shown to pupils depicting some of the issues surrounding the current refugee crisis.
Watch the trailer to 'The Day After Peace' which introduces Jeremy Gilley's 10-year journey to establish Peace One Day in the lives of everyone and create an annual and global Peace Day.
Our pupils Amy Newing, Abdullah Ababtain and Emily Hollands provided a wonderful recital of a poem by a Syrian refugee, Elissar Sarih (pictured above), titled Cry for Help and Emily also presented one of her own poems, written about this theme. Further insightful and heartfelt poems by Syrian refugees and Lebanese pupils, including the 2013/14 winner of the Peace Poetry Competition, were also read by David Shodunke, Masha Orlova and Sophie Dedman. To finish the service, Kyky Ababtain said a prayer in Arabic which was translated for everyone to understand and enjoy.
