Fees, Bursaries & Scholarships

All the information you need on fees, bursaries & scholarships for each academic year at Farringtons.

Fees

Below is a summary of our termly fees for the 2023/24 academic year, effective from September 2023.

* Note: All fees are reviewed annually.

The day pupil fee includes a daily choice of hot or cold lunch, plus dessert or fresh fruit.  All meals are prepared in our own kitchens and are of a very high standard.

Payment

Fees are payable in advance, on or before the first day of each term. Pupils entering after half term will be charged half fees for that term. However, no other reductions can be made for late starters. 

The Governors reserve the right to charge interest on late payments and to ask for pupils to be withdrawn if a settlement has not been made by half term. Parents wishing to pay through instalments can contact the Bursar to obtain details of how to do this by calling 020 8467 0256 or emailing [email protected].

Fee Reductions

While two (or more) siblings are at the School, a reduction of 10% is made in respect of the fees of the younger sibling(s). This reduction is not available to siblings in receipt of the Early Years Grant.

Deposit

A deposit of £1,000 is payable for Prep and Senior entry for day pupils joining Farringtons and £500 of this shall be credited against the first term's invoice. There is no additional deposit required when moving from our Prep School to Senior School

For full boarders, weekly boarders and pupils whose residence is usually outside of the UK, the deposit is £13290.00. All deposits are payable on parents' acceptance of an offer of a place in the School.

The deposit is retained until after the final term of schooling when it is refunded to the parents, subject to the settlement of any outstanding charges. The deposit is forfeited if the child fails to take up the place for any reason. Fees are payable for the first term even if a child fails to take up the place, unless one term's notice is given confirming that the place is no longer required. 

Optional Extras

Specialist tuition for most instruments is available, as is preparation for LAMDA (speech and drama). These are charged at cost and will be added to the end of term account. Additional tuition for students with a specific learning need is not charged for.

Educational visits and weekend activities will be added to the end of term account for Boarders. For day pupils, these are to be paid for in advance by parents, as advised by staff, in advance of the activity.


Scholarships

Farringtons offers a number of Scholarships to exceptional pupils.  The value of any Scholarship in the Senior School is up to 30% per annum and each is linked to any change in fee levels, which are subject to regular review.

All Scholarship and Head’s Scholarship Awards are formally reviewed annually and, providing the requirements of the award are being fulfilled and academic progress is deemed suitable, Scholars can expect school fee remission until the end of their Sixth Form studies.

At the Head’s discretion, one scholarship may be shared between more than two pupils in any one year, depending upon the academic merit of all candidates concerned.  The amount of the award will be shared out between those concerned and will be less than the full term’s fees per year per pupil.

Head’s Scholarship Awards

Head’s Scholarship Awards (value up to 15%) may also be given at the Head’s discretion to a small number of pupils in the Senior School who are all-rounders or who show real potential in a particular area.


Year 3 - Academic Scholarship

Farringtons is pleased to offer scholarships for new and current children entering Year 3.

These Scholarships are offered to exceptional pupils who demonstrate outstanding academic ability.

The value of this Scholarship is up to 25% per annum and each is linked to any change in fee levels, which are subject to regular review.

Recipients of the Year 3 Scholarship are expected to sit the Year 7 Academic Scholarship examination in order that their Award be reviewed.

What is expected of a Farringtons Scholar?

Scholars are expected to involve themselves fully in all age appropriate aspects of school life by: 

  • Adopting a scholarly attitude towards all curriculum subjects
  • Setting an example to other pupils
  • Attending and participating in activities and events that enhance their education
  • Assisting during Open Mornings
  • Contributing to the School Newsletter
  • Entering competitions and keeping the school informed about future ideas and plans for study.

Scholarship Examinations

Candidates must be 6 years of age on 1st September of the academic year in which they take the examination.

Candidates are required to complete tests at Farringtons School.  These comprise of:

  • English - candidates will be tested in key aspects of English such as spelling, punctuation and grammar, and reading comprehension. Approximate length is 1 hour 15 minutes
  • Mathematics - candidates will be tested in mental maths and applying and understanding maths.

Application Process

All candidates must complete and return a Scholarship Application Form to the Registrar. Scholarship Application Forms are available on the School website. External candidates must also complete a Registration Form and pay a non-refundable £100 registration fee.

Scholarships are awarded based on a child’s performance in the Scholarship Examination.  Shortlisted candidates are invited with their families to attend an interview with the Head, Mr Jackson and the Head of the Prep School, Mr Boyjoonauth.

Candidates are notified on the outcome of their application by post. References for external candidates will be sought from their current school.

Internal candidates are invited to discuss their application in advance with Mr Boyjoonauth, Head of the Prep School or Mrs Cryan, Deputy Head.

Year 7 - Academic Scholarship

Farringtons School is pleased to offer some academic scholarships each year for pupils entering Year 7.  The value of any scholarship is up to 30%.  Each is linked to any change in fee levels and is subject to regular review.

In the case of all Academic Scholarships, the Awards are based upon performance in the entrance examination and Scholarship interview held at Farringtons each year.  Candidates must be under 11 years of age on 1st September of the academic year in which they take the examination.

Scholarships are awarded on the basis that the pupil will complete his or her education to the end of Sixth Form studies at Farringtons (providing satisfactory GCSE results are obtained).   Pupils who are awarded Scholarships are expected to maintain a high level of academic achievement; their performance will be reviewed annually and anyone who fails to reach the required standard will be asked to relinquish their Scholarship.

Candidates who are considered eligible for an Academic Scholarship will be invited for an interview or further assessment.

What is expected of an Academic Scholar?

Scholars are expected to involve themselves fully in all aspects of school life by: 

  • Adopting a scholarly attitude towards all curriculum subjects
  • Setting an example to other pupils
  • Attending and participating in activities and events that enhance their education
  • Assisting during Open Mornings
  • Contributing to the School Newsletter
  • Entering competitions and keeping the school informed about future ideas and plans for study.

Year 7 Academic Scholarship Application Process

  • Scholarship assessments take place week commencing 8th January 2024
  • Decision letters posted: 26th January 2024
  • Deadline for acceptance: Tuesday 5th March 2024.

Year  7 - Music Scholarship

Music Scholars are expected to play at least two instruments.  Candidates should be a minimum of Grade 4 standard on their first instrument and have some skill to perform on a second instrument, which may include the voice.

An audition usually consists of a prepared piece and sight reading on their first instrument, a prepared piece on their second instrument, and aural tests for musicianship. There will also be an interview with the Head and the Head of Music.  In addition, a reference is sought from a Music Teacher or other professionally qualified person.

What is expected of a Music Scholar?

Music Scholars are expected to involve themselves fully in the musical life of the School by: 

  • Attending and performing in concerts and special events 
  • Playing and assisting during Open Mornings
  • Assisting with Prep School and Senior School Clubs at lunchtime and after school
  • Attending all rehearsals as requested
  • Willingness to help Music teachers with work behind the scenes
  • Contributing willingly towards all aspects of the Music Department
  • Contributing towards the School Newsletter
  • Working hard and being organised in all music and academic studies

Music Scholarship Application Process

  • Music Scholarship applications should be made by ticking the relevant box on the Registration Form and returned to the Registrar by 10th November 2023.  References, supporting materials and endorsements must also be submitted by this deadline
  • Scholarship assessments take place week commencing 4th December 2023
  • Decision letters posted: 26th January 2024
  • Deadline for acceptance: Tuesday 5th March 2024

Year  7 - Creative & Performing Arts Scholarship

Creative & Performing Arts Scholarships are offered to candidates who shows outstanding talent and commitment to Art, Drama or Dance.

Students applying can demonstrate their talent and commitment by:

  • A portfolio of work (Art)
  • LAMDA exams or equivalent (Drama)
  • Recorded evidence of performance ability (Drama/Dance)
  • Examples of semi-professional or professional work, e.g. youth theatre, youth dance, local or West End performances
  • Success at local, national or international competitions.

Other evidence may be considered. 

Creative & Performing Arts Scholarship Application Process

What is expected of a Creative & Performing Arts Scholar?

Creative & Performing Arts Scholars are expected to involve themselves fully in the life of the School by: 

  • Attending and performing in concerts and special events/exhibitions
  • Assisting during Open Mornings
  • Assisting with Prep School and Senior School Clubs at lunchtime and after school
  • Attending all rehearsals as requested
  • Being willing to help teachers with work behind the scenes
  • Contributing willingly towards all aspects of the Creative & Performing Arts Department
  • Contributing to the School Newsletter
  • Working hard and being organised in all studies.

Year  7 - Sports Scholarship

How are potential Sports Scholars assessed?

Applicants for this award will be expected to:

  • Demonstrate a good level of all-round ability in a range of sports skills, including swimming and to have participated at a high level in the community or their current school. The candidate must be motivated to participate in school teams and compete regularly and enthusiastically for the School. 
  • Have a written reference from an external sports coach or instructor, or a school report from the PE Department.

Candidates will be asked to submit an application form and references.  Shortlisted candidates will be asked to attend a practical assessment which will include:

  • Boys: football skills and match play, cross country fitness, swimming, invasion sports match play, striking and fielding skills tests.
  • Girls: football skills, netball skills and match play, cross country fitness, swimming, invasion sports match play, striking and fielding skills tests.


Candidates who are successful in the practical assessment will be invited for a formal interview.

What is expected of a Sports Scholar?

At the start of each academic year, Sports Scholars with the Director of Sport will draw up a contract outlining their sporting commitments for the following year.  This contract will be reviewed each year and any pupil who has failed to meet their scholarship obligations will be referred to the Head.

Sports Scholars are expected to involve themselves fully in the sporting life of the School by:

  • Fulfilling their contract
  • Being a talented all-rounder
  • Leading by example
  • Contributing willingly towards all aspects of the PE and Sports Department
  • Attending and assisting in sports events/activities
  • Assisting during Open Mornings
  • Being willing to help Sports Teachers with work behind the scenes
  • Contributing to the School Newsletter.

Year 7 Sports Scholarship Application Process

  • Sports Scholarship applications should be made by ticking the relevant box on the Registration Form and returned to the Registrar by 10th November 2023.  References, supporting materials and endorsements must also be submitted by this deadline

Year 12 Scholarships

Sixth Form Academic Scholarships are available each year for pupils currently studying at Farringtons in Year 11 and for pupils joining us from other schools.

In the case of internal Scholarships, the awards are based upon academic performance to date and a Scholarship examination, comprising two, one hour, subject specific papers.

Teachers’ recommendations and predicted grades for GCSEs will be taken into consideration, together with the results of an interview with the Head.

For external scholarships, as well as taking the Scholarship examination, a report from the Head of the candidate’s current school is required. Prediction (and subsequent achievement) of GCSE grades and the results of an interview with the Head at Farringtons School, will also be taken into consideration.

Year 12 Scholarship Application Process

  • Scholarship Form returned to the Registrar by Friday 1st December 2023
  • Sixth Form Scholarship Assessments on Saturday 13th January 2024
  • Sixth Form Interviews in January 2024
  • Decision Letters posted mid February 2024.

Existing scholars at Farringtons should consult the Head regarding the continuation of their Scholarship into Year 12.


Stratford House Award

This scholarship is awarded to one or more Farringtons pupils in Year 11 who is/are committed to staying on into the Sixth Form. Pupils will be required to give a presentation and a written submission on a subject of general interest and attend an interview with members of the Governing Body at the School. The successful candidate is chosen by members of our Governing Body.

Stratford House Award Application Process

  • Transition form returned to the Registrar by Friday 1st December 2023
  • Stratford House Award Assessments on Saturday 13th January 2024
  • Stratford House Interviews in January 2024
  • Decision letters posted mid February 2024.

Bursaries - Year 7 and 12

Farringtons is able to provide some financial assistance to pupils whose parents could not otherwise afford the fees. These bursaries are awarded on an assessment of financial need.
