Sensory Fun for Toddlers (and a peek into our Early Years Easter Celebrations!)

Early Years blog post - Sensory Fun for Toddlers

EARLY YEARS BLOG

Firstly, Easter is a time of vibrant colours, new life and most importantly, fun! Indeed, for toddlers, it is a fantastic opportunity to explore the world through their senses. Read our top tips for celebrating Easter at home and find out what we are doing in Early Years.

Sensory Easter fun at home

  • Textured egg hunt: Forget just hiding plastic eggs. Fill some with different textures! Think cotton balls, rice, dried pasta, or even smooth pebbles. This adds a tactile element to the classic egg hunt.
  • Bunny tail sensory bin: Fill a shallow bin with cotton balls (bunny tails!), shredded paper, and small plastic eggs. Hide some carrot-shaped toys or bunny figurines for added fun.
  • Easter Playdough: Make (or buy) pastel-coloured Playdough. Add some cookie cutters in Easter shapes, small plastic eggs, and feathers for tactile exploration.
  • Spring flower sensory bottles: Fill clear plastic bottles with water, add colourful flower petals, glitter and small plastic eggs. Secure the lids tightly and let your toddler shake and observe the swirling colours and textures.
  • Sound egg shakers: Fill plastic eggs with different materials like rice, beans, or bells. Seal them securely and let your toddler explore the different sounds they make.

Why sensory play matters

Essentially, sensory play is crucial for toddlers’ development. Specifically, it helps:

  • Develop fine motor skills
  • Stimulate cognitive development
  • Encourage exploration and curiosity
  • Promote language development
  • Provide a calming and engaging experience

A peek into Farringtons EARLY YEARS Easter festivities!

At Farringtons Prep School, the Early Years classes are gearing up for a truly egg-citing Easter celebration! To begin with, we have planned a range of activities that will capture the imagination and create lasting memories.

  • Easter service: The children have been practising songs and will be designing and creating their own hats which they will showcase at our Easter Chapel performance
  • The great egg hunt: A classic Easter tradition, the children will embark on a thrilling egg hunt around the school grounds, searching for hidden treasures
  • The famous Farringtons egg roll competition: This is a much-loved tradition at Farringtons! The children will test their skills in the annual egg roll competition, cheering on their eggs as they race down a gentle slope
  • Easter paintings: The Early Years classrooms will be transformed into art studios as the children create colourful Easter paintings
  • Easter baking: the children are looking forward to baking some delicious Easter treats

Ultimately, Farringtons Prep School understands the importance of creating memorable experiences for young learners. Therefore, their Easter celebrations are designed to be fun, engaging, and educational, fostering creativity and a sense of community.
