What Early Years got up to this week

Pre-Reception Easter crafts

PRE-RECEPTION

This week has been an extremely busy week for Pre-Reception and the rest of the Prep School. It was lovely to see many of you at our Easter Service. We are sure that you were as impressed as us by the children’s singing. We were very proud of them all. We have taken part in various Easter activities, including egg rolling, making decorations and cards.

PHONICS

In Phonics, we have learnt how to pronounce the sound ‘j’. We have taught the children to, “Pucker your lips and show your teeth; use your tongue as you say j j j.”

NEXT TERM

In Maths, we will continue to work on subitising (saying how many without counting), 1 to 1 correspondence (counting a group of objects by assigning the numbers in order) and numeral recognition.

After the break, in Phonics we will learn how to pronounce the sound ‘v’.

Our new topic will be ‘animals’ and in Pre-Reception, we will focus on farm animals.

Our Jigsaw PSHE puzzle is ‘relationships’. We will discuss families, how to make friends and what to do if friendships are not working out.

RECEPTION

We have had a busy final week in Reception.

Understanding the World

This week we have been exploring Easter. We learnt about the Christian celebration and how people celebrate it.

On Friday morning the children thoroughly enjoyed taking part in our own Farringtons Easter tradition the ‘egg rolling’ competition.

Additionally, thank you to all the parents who were able to attend the Easter Service on Wednesday afternoon, I am sure you will agree the children looked and sang fantastically. Following the service, we went on an Easter hat parade, when the children got to show off their amazing hats.

Phonics

This week we completed phonic assessments on all children and we are very proud of how hard the children are working with their phonics. Looking ahead, next term we will be moving on phase 4 phonics. Whilst this does not include any new phonemes it will focus on longer words and it will introduce some new ‘tricky words.’

Maths

Finally, this week we have revisited maths taught this term by looking at true and false statements. This encourages a deeper understanding of maths.
