DYSLEXIA ASSOCIATION

FUELLING NEURODIVERSE MINDS: UNDERSTANDING BRAIN ENERGY, NUTRITION AND WELLBEING IN DYSLEXIA AND ADHD ONLINE ZOOM MEETING

Date: 22nd June at 8pm

TALK OVERVIEW

Children and young people with dyslexia and ADHD often work incredibly hard to navigate learning, concentration, organisation and emotional regulation throughout the school day. While these differences bring many strengths, they can also require significant mental effort, leaving some young people feeling mentally drained, overwhelmed or exhausted.

This engaging and practical session explores the relationship between brain energy, nutrition and wellbeing. We will discuss how the brain uses energy, why concentration, overthinking, anxiety and emotional regulation can feel particularly demanding, and how regular nourishment can help support energy levels, focus and overall well being.

Speaker Bio for the session

Jenny Tomei is the Founder of JenUp Community C.I.C and a qualified Nutritional and Eating Disorder Therapist, speaker and trainer specialising in eating disorders, disordered eating, body image, nutrition and wellbeing. The organisation is funded by the National Lottery Community Fund and Smile of Hope Charity.

Jenny delivers workshops, training and keynote talks across schools, universities, businesses and healthcare settings throughout the UK. Her work focuses on early intervention, prevention and helping young people develop healthier relationships with food, exercise and their bodies.

She has a particular interest in supporting neurodiverse children and young people, exploring how factors such as ADHD, autism, dyslexia, anxiety and emotional wellbeing can influence eating behaviours, self-esteem and everyday functioning.

Drawing on both professional expertise and lived experience, Jenny is passionate about translating complex topics into practical, accessible guidance for parents, educators and young people.
