Senior School Outdoor Pursuits

Farringtons is a school where sports are a pivotal part of the experience. Indeed, all pupils, regardless of their ability, have the opportunity to participate in team-building and leadership activities through sports.

Furthermore, Farringtons is fortunate to boast expansive sports facilities spanning 25 acres of maintained grounds. These include playing fields, sports hall, swimming pool, mirrored dance studio featuring a sprung wooden floor, a dedicated fitness room for pupils in Year 10 and above, and specialised classrooms for GCSE and A Level sports studies.

Within this backdrop, our passionate teachers empower pupils to explore a wide spectrum of sporting activities. We encourage them to discover their passions and hone their skills. Whether it is on the field, in the gym, or within the modern confines of our sports hall, pupils are encouraged to push boundaries and strive for excellence.

What We Offer

We currently offer a wide range of sports in our PE lessons including Athletics, Football, Netball, Gymnastics, Swimming, Cross Country, Dance, Cricket, Tennis, Rounders and Basketball. As well as extra-curricular activities allowing our pupils to develop key skills and personal qualities that will prove valuable throughout their time at school and into the wider world.

Year 7 and 8 pupils can also participate in ‘How to Stay Alive’ as part of their Floreat lessons in our Forest School with activities that focus on ecology, survival, creating a settlement, composting, permaculture and cooking.

Aim For the Stars

In line with our commitment to fostering talent, Farringtons offers Sports Scholarships for pupils entering Year 7 who demonstrate exceptional athletic potential. This initiative provides a pathway for gifted individuals to receive additional support and resources to pursue their sporting ambitions at the highest level.

Beyond mere competition, our sports programme instils invaluable life skills such as resilience, discipline, and teamwork, preparing pupils for success both on and off the field. At Farringtons, we believe that sports are not just a pastime but a catalyst for personal growth, camaraderie, and lifelong wellbeing.

Duke of Edinburgh

The Duke of Edinburgh Award is a fantastic opportunity to build up a range of career enhancing skills, in addition to increasing self-confidence and resilience as well as fitness. In short, it is a life-changing experience.  The award runs in Year 9, Year 10 and Year 12 for bronze, silver and gold respectively and pupils are expected to be motivated to work through the four sections for bronze and silver and five sections for gold in order to achieve their awards. The aim of the award is not to be competitive, but to be a team player, pushing yourself toward meeting your teams’ goals as well as your own, whatever your ability.

Pupils that have signed up to take part have scheduled meetings that take place after school on Fridays and these sessions cover all the basic training that is needed. In Year 9 this training is also supported by the Floreat Programme and the Spring Term Floreat sessions are dedicated to developing the pupils’ skills in areas such as tent pitching, map reading and even cooking outdoors.
